Sweetbay Magnolia is a native tree to the eastern United States. It is late-blooming around the time of May-June. The creamy, white flowers are pleasantly fragrant and the leaves are glossy, dark green with silvery undersides. This tree is an excellent choice to be planted near patios, edges, and shrub borders. Sweetbay Magnolia trees are also well known to be tolerant of wet conditions, water edges and lower areas in a landscape that may hold water.
